Three Girls in the City (Self-Portrait) - Jeanne Betancourt

Three girls meet at a summer photography workshop. They hate each other on first sight, but towards the end they grow fond of each other and become best friends. It’s an interesting read about how trust forms in between them.

Carolyn: She is a red head from tiny Wyoming and is a country girl. She moves to New York is very tense. Will people like her? What if everyone there was super sophisticated?

Maya: She is an African-American living in New York’s Uptown where most African-Americans live. Her granny is very interested in astrology and zodiac signs.

Joy: She is a rich kid whose parents are divorced. Joy is not a happy kid. Her name is misnomer. She hates her father’s new wife and her half-brother Jake.

At the end Carolyn stays in New York forever, Maya doesn’t care about hanging out with non-African-Americans, and Joy becomes happy. :)
